EDUCATION –
Training
Fraser regularly trains musicians and teachers to run creative,
practical music-making projects for themselves.
For professional musicians, the process encourages them to
feel comfortable and creative in environments other than
that of the concert hall. There is an emphasis on developing
composing or devising techniques to encourage musicians
to have an active involvement in the creative process and
to see how the skills they already posses can be useful
in educational and creative situations. A link is often made
to orchestral repertoire in order to access the knowledge
and skills already inherent in the musicians concerned and
to make a strong relationship with the real
working artistic life of orchestras and their musicians.
For many years Fraser has had a leading role in training
teachers, trainee teachers and music students from all over
the world. Most projects in schools are devised in collaboration
with teachers and offer forms of in-built training. Since
1996 Fraser has been regularly involved in developing the
skills of trainee music teachers at the Institute of Education
in London.
Recent training projects have been developed with London Sinfonietta, Ensemble Modern, Britten Sinfonia,
Musica Viva Australia, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra,
Society Gavinges (Netherlands), The sage Gateshead, City of London Sinfonia, Aldeburgh Music, Guildhall School of Music
and Drama, Royal College of Music and the Royal Academy of
Music.
Fraser has also been developing new initiatives in corporate
training programmes with London Sinfonietta, Britten Sinfonia, Judge Business School, Arup Acoustics,
London Underground, Brent Council and Nordbank.
